NEWCOMERSTOWN (Tusco TV) - The Newcomerstown High School teacher and drama director accused of sexual misconduct against a student is no longer an employee of the school district.

33-year-old Adam Lefler of Midvale was arrested on April 30th and charged with sexual battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after police found him in a car in the Claymont Centre parking lot with the 16-year-old student. He has been on unpaid leave ever since, and the school board voted Monday to accept his resignation.

Lefler in his May 8th letter of resignation thanked Superintendent Jeff Staggs and the school board for the opportunity and said he was proud of the success they had achieved together during his time with the district. He wrote that his hope was that his resignation would eliminate any distraction and allow the district to focus on continued academic success.

Lefler appeared in New Philadelphia Municipal Court last Thursday for a preliminary hearing. Judge Nanette Von Allman continued his previous bond conditions and bound his case over to the grand jury. He is to have no contact with the alleged victim or anyone under the age of 18.
