NEW PHILADELPHIA (Tusco TV) - Tuscarawas Arts Partnership officials are inviting area families to join them this weekend an afternoon of arts-oriented family fun.

TAP Executive Director Wilma Mullet says they’ve rebranded their Arty Party fundraiser into a community event with live music, take-home crafts and a student art show. It’s happening from 1 to 4 pm Sunday at the My Museum tattoo studio on Tuscarawas Avenue, and Mullet says the goal is to get kids and families excited about the arts.

"This is a fantastic event that I know that our board has worked really hard for, and in the past, the Arty Party has been known as our fundraiser. However, the Arty Party is now focused on our community and our students and the work that they do," she says.

Mullet says a panel of judges will select the overall winners in each age group from the around 150 student art show submissions, and the winning pieces will have their artwork displayed at the county office building. She says the show is a way to recognize and encourage Tuscarawas County’s youngest artists.

"If you see some of the talent that truly exists in our students, it’s really incredible and it’s a shame that they don’t get more of an opportunity right now to showcase their work or even have that encouragement to be like, hey, I want to do something with the arts someday," she says.

Mullet says the Sunday’s Arty Party is free to attend and ends early enough for football fans to get home to watch the Browns game.
