STRASBURG (WJER) - Strasburg’s parent-teacher group is getting another payload of technology for the elementary school thanks to a grant through Lowe’s.

PTG Vice-President Valerie Slabaugh says they were awarded $5,000 to buy Chromebook laptops and a charging station for them called a Chrome cart. Slabaugh says that brings their totals up to six Chrome carts and enough Chromebooks for each grade level.

“We just did not have enough carts to go around, not enough technology for all of the students. So our goal this year was to purchase three Chrome carts for the elementary school,” she says. “Well, I found out about the grant from Lowes so I applied for it in the fall.”

Slabaugh says the total purchase cost about $7,500, with all of the money coming from PTG efforts.

“The grant paid for $5,000 of it, and then we had a basket raffle in the fall, and we raised I believe $500 or $600 for that, and then the PTG, we do fundraisers throughout the year so we were able to provide the other like $2,000,” she says.
Slabaugh says she expects to keep raising money for more chrome carts since the computers have to be periodically replaced after several classes have used them.
