Strasburg, Ohio - The search is on for a new head of the Strasburg Police Department following the sudden resignation of Chief Robert Kutcher.

On Tuesday evening, village council members voted to accept Kutcher’s resignation from the police department effective immediately.

Mayor John Bitikofer said Kutcher submitted a letter of resignation stating that his departure was “for personal reasons” but offering no further explanation.

Bitikofer said Sgt. Dave Warrick will oversee the police department while the village actively searches for a new chief.

“We’re just going to keep doing business as normal. We’ll get a replacement interviewed and hired and brought back in,” he said.

When asked whether the village had any idea that Kutcher was planning to resign, Bitikofer stated that he had no additional comments.

Kutcher has been on the force for a total of 21 years, serving the last six years as the village’s chief of police.
