New Philadelphia, Ohio (WJER) - State troopers say drivers did a good job getting to their holiday destinations this season through Tuscarawas County.

New Philadelphia Post commander Lt. Mark Glennon says during the Christmas reporting period from Friday through Tuesday, his troopers made 56 enforcement stops, handled 11 traffic crashes with no life-threatening injuries and made nine OVI arrests.

“I thought the results were pretty good. It shows our roadways were safe this weekend and that we were out doing the best we could to make sure they remained safe,” he says.

Glennon says he credits the high visibility of troopers, responsible drivers and cooperative weather for keeping the roads safe these past several days.

“Anytime that we’re out there and we’re visible to people, it makes people slow down and react a little bit differently and drive a little bit safer,” he says. “The other would be the drivers themselves. I think people were taking more responsibility for what they were doing.”

Glennon says the statistics from this reporting period are similar to those from a year ago.
