New Philadelphia, Ohio (WJER) - The Dover-New Philadelphia Salvation Army is renewing its plea to the community with Christmas less than two weeks away.

Lt. Andrew Allen says they have an angel tree set up at their headquarters to assist families in need. He says people can come over or call, take a tag from the tree, and buy the gift requested on that tag, which might cost about $25 or so.

“We have about 50 angel tree tags still left at our building. Essentially, you just purchase the item and bring it back to our building unwrapped with the tag attached to it,” he explains.

People have through Friday to pick up a tag, purchase the item, and bring the gift back to the organization’s Emmet Avenue headquarters.

Allen says it’s also crunch time for their Red Kettle Campaign. It’s raised $75,000 so far, thanks in part to a $14,000 check from the Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union.

“With our goal being raised to $125,000 this year it really, really helped us out,” he says. “We are so, so grateful, so appreciative of that.”

Allen says that leaves about $50,000 to raise between now and their last day on Christmas Eve.
