New Philadelphia, Ohio (WJER) - A local charity that assists people in need with medical bills and handicapped-accessible equipment purchases has reason to celebrate again today.

The Rainbow Connection raised over $260,000 through its telethon Sunday, far exceeding the mark it set last year of about $225,000. This was thanks to a final surge in donations. Rainbow Connection Director Carmel Hauter said she was thrilled with the outcome.

The telethon went from 10:30 am to 7 pm Sunday on Spectrum Cable Channel 15 and online at tuscrainbow.org, where they also auctioned off many different items, from vacation packages to sports memorabilia, all donated to the charity for the cause.
