UHRICHSVILLE (Tusco TV) - The Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition is heading back to the Twin Cities again to share substance abuse prevention tools and information.

Coalition member and PFCS Prevention Specialist Diana Smith says they will be teaming up with the Tuscarawas County Health Department for an event at the Uhrichsville Church of the Nazarene during the church’s weekly clothes this Thursday from 2 to 4 pm. She says it will be the same format as the event they held at Mako’s earlier in the month with informational booths, free Narcan kits, and bags people can use to get rid unwanted prescription drugs.

"This is the second event that we’ve held. The first event was on July 3rd at Mako’s right at the grocery store, and we did it during the day, also had a very good response so we’re going to do the clothes closet at the Churmoe Nazarene hoping to reach more local people that could use the resources, could use the Narcan kits, could use the Deterra bags," she says.

Smith says these efforts are an outreach of the coalition’s 922 Initiative to help residents reclaim a community deeply impacted by the presence of dangerous drugs.

"We’re actually going around all communities but Uhrichsville is a hot spot right now for overdoses, and we felt it would be better if we go to the area where the problem is instead of that problem area coming to us," she says.

The 922 Initiative meets at the Uhrichsville Nazarene church monthly. People can call the Anti-Drug Coalition at 330-440-7320 if they would like to get involved.
