UHRICHSVILLE (Tusco TV) - Ten city roads are getting a fresh coat of asphalt as this year’s paving program gets underway in Uhrichsville.

Mayor Rick Dorland says Shelly & Sands has been in town since late last week getting started on the six roads previously identified for paving. Dorland says they’ve also agreed to do four additional roads while they’re in town for the roughly $50,000 leftover in the city’s $194,000 paving budget.

"Those streets being West First Street from the railroad tracks to North Wardell Street; McConnell Street from Trenton Avenue to West First Street; Morris Street, which is in the north side of town out by Claymont Center, from Elm Street to the dead-end; and then South Main Street from East High to East First," he says.

Dorland says they couldn’t afford to pave all the roads they didn’t make it on this year’s list, so they stuck with the cheaper ones that didn’t need resurfacing.

"The estimate to do all of those roads come in well above what we had in excess so the representatives from Shelly and Sands made a recommendation to find some streets that wouldn’t need ground down because the grinding, I guess, is the most expensive part or one of the most expensive parts of the actual paving," he says.

Dorland says the contractor started got last Thursday on Spanson Drive and has since completed Packer Street and Claymont Drive. He expects it will take until at the end of the week for them to make it through the rest list that also includes parts of West Seventh, East Tenth and South Water streets and all of Claymont Drive.
