New Philadelphia, Ohio - The student-run Joe Carlisle Carlisle Café & Marketplace is back in business at Buckeye Career Center.
Last week, students in the career center's Floral, Meat Cutting and Hospitality programs opened the doors to the Marketplace for its second year of business. The Marketplace is open to the public on school days from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., features a floral counter and meat and deli counter, and also offers fresh baked goods and coffee.
Meanwhile, BCC's Culinary Arts students are preparing to reopen the Joe Carlisle Café on Wednesday, October 10.
The café is open to the public and offers an entire menu of reasonably-priced lunch options, all prepared and served by Culinary Arts students.
The café will also be offering extended hours and an expanded salad bar option this year, changes that Superintendent Bob Alsept hopes will encourage more area residents, local employees and Kent State Tuscarawas faculty and students to use the recently renovated space.
Days and hours of operation for the year will be open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 pm. but may vary depending on school events and weather.
Culinary Arts/Chef Training instructor Mike Starlin says he's eager for his students to learn about the daily restaurant business, which includes serving, cooking, cleaning and customer service.
The Joe Carlisle Café & Marketplace was constructed ahead of the 2017-2018 school year to better serve students hoping to enter the customer service industry. The facility is named in honor of Mr. Joe Carlisle, Buckeye Career Center’s first superintendent.
The career center asks that the public use the separate, side entrance when patronizing the Joe Carlisle Café & Marketplace.
