Tuscarawas County, Ohio - State troopers are investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Newcomerstown teen Saturday morning.

The accident occurred on Stonecreek Road (CR 21) on October 27 just before 2 a.m. According to the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway, 17-year-old Mitchell Russell was driving northbound on Stonecreek Road (CR 21) in a 2003 GMC Sonoma pickup truck when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the road just north of Joyce Hill Road (CR 55) striking a tree.

Russell was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the York Township Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner Investigator. 

The accident remains under investigation. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
