NEWCOMERSTOWN (Tusco TV) - Village officials are considering a resident’s suggestion for making the park pool more fun for kids to visit over the summer.

Mayor Pat Cadle says they’re looking into the feasibility of installing a splash pad at the Cy Young Park Pool after resident Michelle Mozena presented the idea during Monday’s council meeting. (He says a splash pad is a structure with sprinklers kids can run through and play in like what they have at waterparks).

"It’s for a pool area where it shoots water up out of the pad so that little kids can run in. It’s like a sprinkler system only it’s made for recreation. They make them all different kinds and sizes and shapes and a lot of times you’ll see them at the water parks with different pieces of equipment that sometimes the water comes out of. Sometimes it’s just the pad that’s shooting the water out," he explains.

Cadle says they’ve been having some (circulation) issues with the kiddie pool there, so council thought the splash pad might be a good alternative.

"We’ve started having some problems with our baby pool with circulation, which is not what you want and where you want to have circulation problems because of the accidents they have, so we’re gonna check that out, see what it’s gonna take to fix that first but if we can’t or if we have to tear up cement, why not put a pad down that kids can have as much fun - and it’s not cement," he says.

Cadle says he and Mozena will be meeting to work on a detailed proposal to bring back to council. He expects the project will cost between $80,000 and $100,000 but says Mozena has already started looking into possible funding sources.
