New Philadelphia, Ohio (WJER) - City officials continue to be proactive in finding and alleviating traffic issues in the city.

Mayor Joel Day says one of concern is the Kent State Tuscarawas Gateway that’s currently under construction. (making a left-hand turn would be difficult without a designated left-hand turn light).

What they’re concerned about is left-hand turns coming out of the Gateway roadway,” he says. “They feel without a light there to free up a left-hand turn it might be difficult.”

Day says after discussing the situation with city Safety Director Greg Popham and Police Chief Mike Goodwin, they agreed that the next step is contacting ODOT for advice.

“I like to get out ahead of things before problems develop, and that’s what we’re trying to do here,” he says.

The $3 million project is set for completion this year.
