New Philadelphia, Ohio (WJER) - City officials are reminding residents how their trash pickup schedules work during a holiday week.

New Philadelphia Service Director Ron McAbier says the sanitation employees still work some federal holidays, like this week and Presidents’ Day, so the schedules are unaffected.

“Every year for the last 28 years, even when I’ve picked up garbage, Martin Luther King Day is always a regular pickup. We don’t miss a day. The guys always come in and work Monday through Friday so there’s not a delay,” he says.

McAbier says they don’t pickup on major holidays including Memorial Day, Labor Day, Independence Day.

“Those are always days that they’re off. We take everything out to Kimble’s, and they’re not open the major holidays. That’s what it’s based off of more than anything,” he says.

McAbier says residents can see more on the schedule by visiting the city website and clicking on the sanitation department section.
