New Philadelphia, Ohio (WTUZ) – The fear of shootings in schools is still on the minds of mayors and what possible solutions are. During a Mayor’s Association of Ohio meeting, this topic was brought up and those in attendance, including New Philadelphia’s mayor, spoke of their concerns. Mayor Joel Day explains while the topic was mentioned, cities and villages do not operate the schools. “The schools are in our community but that’s a school board decision that has to be made. The pros and cons were discussed, but that’s up to the school boards to decide.” Earlier this year in February, law enforcement responded to multiple school districts in Tuscarawas County, including Claymont and New Philadelphia, after bomb and shooting threats were found. - Mary Alice Reporting
