New Philadelphia, Ohio - In honor of Veteran's Day, the Main Library of the Tuscarawas County Public Library System will host a program titled Black Troops in the Civil War on November 15th at its Main Library in New Philadelphia. 

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Leonne Hudson, professor of history at Kent State University, will share insight on the contributions and experiences of Black troops during the American Civil War. Dr. Hudson specializes in 19th-century U.S. history and research interest include the Civil War era. 

In addition to the contributions of Black troops to the Union effort, Dr. Hudson will also touch on the effort of the Confederate government to enroll black men into their army and the reaction of USCT (United States Colored Troops) to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
