June 15th is Elder Abuse Awareness Day!

The Tuscarawas County of Job and Family Services would like to remind everyone that they not only investigate child abuse situations, but they also investigate adult abuse/neglect. 

“Like children, adults are sometimes in danger of harm, unable to protect themselves, and have no one else to assist them. We reduce or remedy conditions causing endangerment to adults, maximizing the adult’s independence and self-direction, and preventing unnecessary institutionalization.”

APS (Adult Protective Services) strives to help the elderly by allowing them to live independently, and making their home a safe place. They provide various programs to assist in living, including: home health, the Senior Center, and home delivered meals. 

The Tuscarawas County of Job and Family Services wants to highlight that many adults over the age of 60 are “at risk of being emotionally, physically, and financially abused or neglected. 

“If anyone in the community has a concern that a person over the age of 60 is being abused, neglected, or financially exploited, they are urged to contact Adult Protective Services at Job and Family Services and report that concern.”
