New Philadelphia, Ohio (WTUZ)  – Donations are now being accepted for the annual Community Hospice Giant Garage Sale at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds.

Fundraising Event Coordinator Mona Sayre said those who are wanting to donate should plan to enter through the Tuscarawas Avenue entrance to drop off all donations.

“Donations can actually come today. Tuesday and Thursday, we will take donations from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday we will take donations from 8:30am to 12:30pm.”

Donations can be anything from furniture, household goods, and artwork, to jewelry and clothing. Sayre says they are still looking for big-ticket items; anything from boats, motorcycles, or even cars. A tax write off is also available for all donations accepted.

Sayre added that all fundraising dollars from this sale will go toward Hospice patient care.

“We are a non-profit Hospice, so we don’t turn anyone away regardless of their ability to pay. Some people fall through the cracks when it comes to insurance and things like that that they don’t have and if they qualify for our care and need it, they are going to be able to get it in this community.”

Shoppers will have a chance to preview the sale on Thursday from 3:00pm until 8:00pm.

“We’ve adjusted our start time on August 2nd to give people a little longer to shop. Of course, that is preview day and you’ll need a $5 admission charge, which is in the form of a wristband. So, if you want to get in first and see all of the deals, that’s what you’ll need to do.”

The goal for this year’s event is to raise more than the previous year’s total of $55,000.

Sayre said they live by their mission statement, “To honor life by providing peace, hope, and compassion to those we serve,” and the proceeds from this event help Hospice do just that.
