NEW PHILADELPHIA (Tusco TV) - The Tuscarawas County Health Department will be teaming up this weekend with the Ohio National Guard to give area residents access to free healthcare services.

County Health Commissioner Katie Seward says the GuardCare medical training event is happening at Buckeye Career Center this Saturday and Sunday with an array of screenings and services offered at no cost.

“Lab work including complete blood count - so white blood count, red blood count, et cetera - lipid panel, comprehensive metabolic panel. We’re gonna do sports physicals, vitals, height, weight, blood pressure, dental screenings. There’s gonna be vaccines offered so all different kinds of back-to-school vaccines will be there and available,” she says.

Additional services being offered during the event include EKGs, breast and cervical exams, and vision screenings, along with a drug take-back station, car seat checks, naloxone distribution. Seward says it’s all absolutely free to anybody who shows up.

“That means anyone who lives in Ohio. That means anyone who lives outside of Ohio. We don’t care. All services are free no insurance will be taken or billed, and everyone is welcome,” she says.

The free community healthcare event runs Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 8 to 3. Seward says free transportation may also be available to and from the event by calling 330-204-6524.
