New Philadelphia, Ohio - An event set for tomorrow in New Philadelphia will connect residents with opportunities to put their time and talents to use for a worthy cause.

The 2018 Volunteer Connect Fair is scheduled for Thursday, October 11, from 4-6 pm at J.I.M.'s Place in New Philadelphia and will offer adults, students, and groups interested in volunteering an opportunity to find out more about area not-for-profit organizations and their need for volunteers.

Vicki Yates is the program coordinator for the Tuscarawas County Senior Center and a member of Volunteer Leaders in Action, the group organizing the free event.

She says the Volunteer Connect Fair will provide an opportunity for individuals to learn how they can make a difference in Tuscarawas County.

“Whether you are a student, retired, or are simply curious about volunteer or board opportunities in Tuscarawas County and want to meet like-minded people, this event is ideal for you,” she says.

Yates says this year's fair is expected to showcase more than 20 local non-profits representing diverse community impact areas including social services, historic landmarks, nature/ecology and the arts.

Kait Gallagher-Wilsterman is the volunteer coordinator for Community Hospice and a member of Volunteer Leaders in Action. She says the annual event is designed to address an increase in the volunteer needs of area agencies.

“This is fueling our desire to collaborate with as many non-profit agencies as possible on this effort,” she says.

Robin Waltz is the president of the United Way of Tuscarawas County, the sponsor of the annual event.

She says the Volunteer Connect Fair is a great way for people interested in volunteering to find an opportunity that fits with their unique interests and talents.

Fair participants in addition to Community Hospice and the Tuscarawas County Senior Center include Alzheimer’s Association of Greater East Ohio Chapter, American Red Cross Stark & Muskingum Lakes Chapter, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio, Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, Compass Rape Crisis Center, HARCATUS, Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County, Mobile Meals of Dover-New Philadelphia, Salvation Army, and Starlight Enterprises Incorporated.
