NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) - A couple of educational neighbors will be recruiting their future classes around the same time.

Kent State University at Tuscarawas and Buckeye Career Center both have open houses today.  Kent Tusc Assistant Admissions Director Courtney Nign says prospective students can come into their open house anytime between 2 and 6 pm at the Science and Advanced Technology Center.

“You can apply for admission that night, apply for financial aid, bring in any transcripts if you’ve already applied, take a tour of campus, and we’re still accepting applications for the summer and the fall semester so that’s a great night to come in and do those things,” she says.

Nign says people who haven’t been to Kent State Tuscarawas in a while could be surprised to see that they are always offering more.

“Every year, we’re expanding opportunities for students both in and out of the classroom. We’re adding new athletic programs. We are adding new opportunities as far as student organizations. Students can join our band and our chorus,” she says.

And Buckeye Career Center Curriculum Director Frank Polen says their Adult Education Open House is from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in the cafeteria.

“All of our programs that are available for financial aid via the Pell Grant, the instructor will be there. We’ll have information, everything that’s there to kind of tell them all about [it]. They’ll be former students, instructor, financial aid advisor, student services,” he says.

Nign and Polen say their schools will both be waiving the application fees for those who apply at today’s open houses.
