DOVER (WJER) - Dover Light and Power will host an open house this weekend to kick off Public Power Week.

Dover residents can visit the generating plant from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday for tours, refreshments, equipment demonstrations, and bucket truck rides. Light and Power Superintendent Dave Filippi says locally-owned power offers many benefits, including quick response times because the electric workers are in Dover.

"We’re public power. We’re not for profit. We’re a community-owned facility and generating facility, and we work hard and strive to keep the rates low for the community," he says.

The American Public Power Association celebrates Public Power Week each year during the first week in October. Dover Light and Power is at 303 East Broadway St. in Dover.
