Tuscarawas County, Ohio - The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal, one-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 21-year-old Dover man Thursday evening.

According to troopers, Charles R. McCallister of Dover was westbound on Johnstown Road just east of Boy Scout Road when his 2003 Mazda Protege traveled left of center and off the left side of the road, striking a tree and trapping McCallister and his 21-year-old passenger inside the vehicle.

McCallister was pronounced dead on the scene by an investigator from the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office. The passenger was transported by MedFlight to Akron City Hospital.

Fairfield Fire & EMS, Mineral City EMS and Smith Ambulance assisted on the scene.

Both the driver and passenger are reported to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
