DOVER - The Dover Public Library officials are inviting area students entering grades 6-12 to stop by over the summer for a special reading program and Teen Tuesday activities.

Teens Tuesdays kicked off June 11th and continue through August 6th with a variety of teen-oriented activities. Upcoming Teen Tuesday events include:

  • June 18th - Play with Your Food: At this cooking competition, teens will be given three random ingredients and a theme. Prizes will be awarded to the most creative dish.
  • July 2nd - Friendship Beads Crafting: The style of the 1960's will be celebrated as teens make clay charms and beaded bracelets, keychains, and more. All materials will be provided.
  • July 9th - Uke Can Rock On: This event will give teens an opportunity to learn some easy classic rock songs on the library's ukuleles. Teens may bring their own ukuleles if desired.
  • July 16th - Kindness Rocks: Participants will paint rocks with inspirational and kind messages. The rocks will then be distributed throughout the community.
  • July 23rd - Tie Dye event:  This event will be held outside, and all materials, including t-shirts, will be provided. Teens may bring other items to dye if desired. T-shirts will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. In the event of rain, the event will be postponed until August 6th and a young adult movie will be shown instead in the library's Community Room.
  • July 30th -  3D Pen Building Challenge - Teens will test their engineering skills and creativity as they compete to make the tallest, most creative structure using 3D printing pens from the library's STEAM Lab. All materials will be provided.
  • August 6th - YA movie showing OR Tie Dye event makeup date (Look for updates on the Dover Public Library's Facebook page.)

All Teen Tuesdays activities begin at 2pm and free to attend with no registration required.

Students can also take part in Readstock, the library's Teen Summer Reading Program inspired by the 50th anniversaries of the Moon Landing and Woodstock. Teens are challenged to read for four hours a week, earning tickets for each hour that they complete. Tickets may be entered to win prizes including a Kindle Fire, an instant camera, a graphic design tablet, a VR headset, and a 3D printing pen. Each prize package also contains a variety of surprises, including books, collectibles, and toys. All teens who turn in their completed reading trackers by August 16th will receive a free book.

Teen Tuesdays and the Readstock Teen Summer Reading Challenge are funded in part by a 21st Century Afterschool Learning Grant with Dover High School.
