DOVER (WJER) - City officials are looking to clear out some garage space by auctioning off or scrapping some old vehicles that have not been used in some time.

City council earlier this week agreed to get rid of two fire trucks that are at least 28 years old and two pickup trucks that are at least 15 years old, either by auction or through a scrap sale. Council Member Sandy Moss says the vehicles are in bad shape and selling them as scrap might be the best they could hope for.

“One is rusted out. One has been sitting for a really long time,” she says.

Safety Director Gerry Mroczkowski says the money from the sales will help buy a new fire truck. The city is also pursuing a grant and a loan to help cover the cost.
