NEW PHILADELPHIA (Tusco TV) - A 35-year-old Dennison man willing be serving a mandatory four years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated drug trafficking and other charges from a 2018 Uhrichsville drug raid.
Charles McIntyre entered guilty pleas Friday to a 10-count indictment that also charged him with drug possession, aggravated menacing and having weapons while under disability. Assistant County Prosecutor Mike Ernest says police found a large amount of MDMA and smaller amounts of various other drugs while investigating a threat complaint from the man McIntyre was staying with.
"The homeowner had complained to law enforcement that he had been threatening and ultimately in going into the home after obtaining a search warrant, the City of Uhrichsville’s police officers located a variety of drugs throughout the basement, some of which were prepared for distribution," he says.
Judge Elizabeth Thomakos read a statement from the victim before agreeing to accept the four-year sentence recommendation.
"It says when Charles was staying downstairs, I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t leave my house, only when I had to, and he was constantly threatening me with a gun. I don’t know what the whole point of the gun thing is but obviously with your history there’s no reason why you should have a weapon."
Ernest said the fact that children were in the home raised the trafficking charge to a first-degree felony.
"The quantity of the MDMA that he had brought it to the level of a felony of the second-degree but whenever someone engages in drug trafficking around a school or around a child can take it up another level, which is what happened here," he says.
McIntyre will also have to serve a mandatory five years of post-release control and is ineligible for early release.
