Dennison, Ohio - The Dennison Fire Department is accepting school supply donations for its second annual Fill the Truck community collection drive.

Items being sought include general school supplies like pens, pencils, notebooks, crayons, markers, erasers, rulers, glue and glue sticks, colored pencils and watercolor paints.

Donations can be dropped off at the station anytime through August 17 or during the Fill the Truck event on Saturday, August 18, from 10 a.m. to noon.

“We’re hoping to get a bunch of people dropping stuff off that day, and we’ll have the firetruck out sitting out front,” Dennison Fire Chief Dave McConnell said of the event.

The collected items will be distributed prior to the start of the new school year to the elementary, intermediate and junior high buildings in the Claymont school district and Immaculate Conception School in Dennison.

“There are a lot of children that don’t have the proper supplies. If they come to school and they don’t have a pencil, they can get one from the supplies that we bring,” Chief McConnell explained.

Chief McConnell noted the collection drive was held for the first time last year and had such a great response from the community that the department decided to make it an annual event.
