NEW PHILADELPHIA (Tusco TV) - The Tuscarawas County auditor is encouraging dog owners to pick up new tags before January 31st, to help find their pet if it gets lost, and to avoid paying a penalty.

Larry Lindberg says 2020 dog licenses are $16 each at the auditor’s office and retailers throughout Tuscarawas County. Retailers include Petz Place in New Philadelphia and both Buehler’s and Discount Drug Mart locations.

“Auditor’s office hours are 8 to 4:30 Monday through Friday. We’re located on the ground floor of the county administration building, and that’s one of the advantages with the agents is if you can’t make it here on a Saturday, you can go there on a Saturday,” Lindberg says.

Lindberg advises people to act fast, because the price doubles starting February 1st. And if their dog gets out without a license, they could end up having to pay a hefty court fine.

“When February comes around, that $16 tag will increase to $32, and if by some chance your dog gets loose and you’re cited in the court, it costs a lot more,” Lindberg says.

A complete list of license agents can be found on the auditor’s website, and licenses can be renewed there, people for an additional $2.25 processing fee.
