DOVER (WJER) - The Tuscarawas County Health Department is celebrating the century mark with the public today.

The health department on East Iron Avenue in Dover has its 100-year anniversary open house from 4 to 6 pm today.  Health Educator Nicole Dorsey says they’re having building tours, opportunities to meet staff members and giveaways.

“That event is really to show our appreciation for all our clients and the community support as a whole,” she says. “We are going to do a lot of cool things.”

Dorsey says each department in the building will also be doing its own relevant demonstration and raffles.

“In May, we’re talking about bicycle safety and using helmets, Put a Lid on Campaign, so we will be giving away free bicycle helmets to anyone who comes,” she says. “They will be fitted so they’re properly worn and they can be safe while they’re riding bikes.”

Dorsey says environmental health will also be showing how to safely clean lead dust from your home, along with providing kits to do that. These giveaways are all made possible through grants.
