Uhrichsville, Ohio - Uhrichsville City Council is losing its senior member.

Longtime Ward 4 Councilwoman Cathy Cottis stepped down Thursday to begin her new role as Union Cemetery Board clerk.

Cottis says she's enjoyed working with her fellow council members and administration to move the city forward over the last 15 years.

“I know the water park has been a big thing, and I’m very happy about that, very pleased with that. I’m very excited with the downtown and the things that have happened with the downtown. Water Street. I’ve been on since 2004. We had that redone,” she says.

Cottis says she hopes council will keep that momentum going.

“It’s bittersweet kinda. I’m excited to be on the cemetery as a clerk and it’s a great group of people but I want council to continue and move in the right direction, which I think they will,” she says.

Council President Mark Haney says Cottis has been a great mentor and an outstanding council member.

“She’s done an excellent job for us, always giving her opinion and she’s always researched everything she’s given her opinion on, which is important,” he says. “She’s mentored some of these younger council people, very involved, and it’s been good for us. It’s going to be a tough loss to replace her.”

Haney says the Democratic Central Committee will be charged with appointing someone to finish out the remainder of Cottis’ term.
