New Philadelphia, Ohio (WTUZ) – Residential homes will be built instead of a condominium subdivision in New Philadelphia on 2nd Street NW.

At a Planning Commission Meeting, Gary Lawver with Lawver Construction proposed that housing units would be a better market in the city.

Service Director Ron McAbier says the single-family housing was approved by the commission.

“What Gary has proposed out there will be 25 single-family homes and roughly 1,400 square foot per home.”

Initially, the condo units were inspired by the need for older adults 55 years and up to have affordable housing.

McAbier notes that the change will not affect the city in terms of utility services.

“In the development he’ll hook up to our infrastructure, meaning the waterlines and sewer lines, and that’ll be at their expense. We can service them fine so there should be no interruption in service for anybody.”

A specific start date for the housing project on 2nd Street was unknown. - Mary Alice Reporting
