TUSCARAWAS COUNTY (WJER) - The valley is joining the nation today in honoring the men and women who have suited up to defend our country.

Several communities and schools have programs Monday for Veterans Day. Tuscarawas County Veterans Service Officer Jason Thornton says many establishments also participate with their own offers for veterans, and usually, proof of service is required.

“I would just say for the veterans, make sure that you take advantage of the benefits that are out there. There’s a lot of businesses and local companies here that give a good discount on Veterans Day,” he says.

Thornton says these businesses seem to enjoy being able to do this.

“It’s just an opportunity for them to give back to the veterans and show a little bit of appreciation,” he says.

New Philadelphia is having its annual Veterans Day ceremony at the courthouse at 11 am, with a short parade at 10:45 leading to the ceremony.
