Dover, Ohio - Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital is helping people to get a head start on their resolutions to pay closer attention to their health in 2019.

The hospital will be kicking off the new year with a series of low-cost community health screenings including Healthy You Heart Screenings and Hemoglobin A1C Screenings.

Health Heart Screening is a 5-minute instant screening that tests for total cholesterol, good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol along with triglyceride and blood sugar levels. The cost for the screening is $9, and a 12-hour fast is recommended. Times and locations for the screenings are as follows: January 2nd from 7:30 to 11 a.m. at Buehler’s Food Market in New Philadelphia (417 S. Broadway); January 7th from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Tuscarawas County YMCA (600 Monroe St., Dover); and January 16th from 7:30 to 11 a.m. at Union Hospital Family Medicine (110 Dublin Drive, Suite A, Dover).

Hemoglobin A1C Screening is a finger stick screening test that measures your average blood sugar over the past 2 to 3 months. Experts say management of blood sugar is key in reducing the health complications associated with diabetes. No fasting is required for the test, which will be offered for $5 at the following times and locations: January 22nd from 8 a.m. to noon at Union Hospital Orthopaedic Surgery (515 Union Ave., Suite 167, Dover); and January 24th from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Garaway Senior Center (221 Dover Road, Sugarcreek).
