Dennison, Ohio - Claymont bus drivers, custodians, secretaries and cafeteria workers have followed through with their threat to strike.

District and OAPSE negotiators went back to the table Thursday afternoon and continued working into the night but were unable to reach a deal on a new contract before the 12:01 am deadline.

Superintendent Scott Golec issued a statement saying the school board presented a last, best and final offer last night at 11 pm after 10 hours of negotiating. OAPSE Field Representative Lynda Bolin says the clock ran out before the union members had a chance to vote on it.

“Because we had already filed a strike notice, it doesn’t leave us a lot of options so we are on strike right now, but we do have a last best final offer,” she says.

Bolin says they could vote on the offer as early as Monday. She says they just want to get this resolved so they can get back to work as soon as possible.
