DOVER (Tusco TV) - Dover First United Methodist churchgoers are doing their part to alleviate world hunger with their most recent service project.

Pastor Dave St. Aubin says around 70 volunteers stuck around after services this past Sunday to pack more than 10,000 meals for the Rise Against Hunger program. He says formed an assembly line with groups of volunteers assigned to various tasks and had the entire job completed in around an hour and a half.

"So we had about maybe 40 people who were measuring out rice and soy and weighing them, pouring them into bags so they were all evenly distributed. And then the next station would take the bags, weigh them to make sure they were the proper weight and then seal them, and then the next station would take the sealed packages and box those up and seal the packages and load them onto a pallet."

St. Aubin says the effort was part of the church’s 40-month-long Multiplying Our Impact Initiative where members and community volunteers complete with a different service project each month.

"Some of the other things that we’ve done, we’ve partnered up with Harbor House and with Salvation Army and with the food pantry. Right now, we’re kind of involved with packaging shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child, so that’s going to be our big goal over the next month or so."

St. Aubin says they have a little over a year to go towards completing the initiative with many more projects still to come, and he says anyone from the community is welcome to join in and help. People can find details about upcoming service projects on the Dover First UMC Facebook page.
