New Philadelphia, Ohio (WTUZ) – State Highway Patrol Troopers will be out in the community sometime this week for an OVI checkpoint.

The sobriety stop is to educate, deter, and intercept impaired drivers.

New Philadelphia Post Lt. Mark Glennon points out that the checkpoints are to get the message out about the dangers of drinking and driving.

“Try to get everybody to understand the importance of getting somewhere safely and by doing that, that means getting someone to drive you if you’ve consumed any alcohol. When we set up the checkpoints, we look to get the message out, make sure that people understand why we’re doing it, and hope that everybody can travel safely on the roads.”

He adds that going through the sobriety checkpoint does not take long. The exact location for the checkpoint is not revealed until the day of. - Mary Alice Reporting
