NEW PHILADELPHIA – Buckeye Career Center is celebrating School Board Recognition Month in January 2020 to build awareness and understanding of the vital function a board of education plays in our society. 

The month is recognized annually by the Ohio School Board Association It honors members of Ohio’s more than 700 city, exempted village, local, and joint vocational boards of education and educational service centers governing boards for unselfishly contribute their time and talents toward the advancement of public education. 

BCC's board of education includes Steve Brode (Newcomerstown), Jim Gertz (East Holmes), Robert Higgenbotham (Conotton Valley), Michelle Sproul (Claymont), Wes Hostetler (Strasburg), Randy Longacher (Dover), Dick Marshall (Garaway), Jim Parrish (New Philadelphia), Dan Ries (Carrollton), Francis Picchetti (Indian Valley), and Scott Tritt (TuscarawasValley). Superintendent Bob Alsept says they're truly dedicated to Buckeye students, staff, and stakeholders. 

“Many of them also serve on their partner school board of education. The time away from their family is very valuable to keeping us on the proper course. Too frequently, they receive far more criticism than praise. This is an opportunity for all of us to say thank you for a job well done,” he says. 

The members were celebrated with a special reception following Wednesday's board’s next meeting, and each member also received a small gift, hand-crafted by Buckeye Career Center Construction Technology students.
