NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) - The 2019 Tuscarawas County Woman of the Year has been named for her contributions to the community.

The Dennison Depot presented the award to Angie Thomas of Bolivar at a banquet Thursday night. Thomas serves on the Executive Board for the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Auxiliary, where she is currently the 1st vice-president.

“So I’ve worked on Chocolate Love A’Fair, Tea in the Garden, our Christmas Tree Festival, all of our major fundraisers but previous to having my office. But now that I have my office I pretty much work on all of them. The hospital actually nominated me, and that’s why I was nominated,” she says.

Thomas says education is another passion, having taught at Tusky Valley for several years. she still tutors kids with reading and donates school supplies and more to students in need.

“We’ve provided Christmas gifts. We’ve provided winter coats, socks, clothes, and anonymously, not this is from us. Just a teacher or administrator will let us know that there’s a need, and we will fill that need if we can,” she says.

Thomas also gives time to The Rainbow Connection, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Personal and Family Counseling Services and Community Hospice.
