Garaway and Hiland boys golf head to state; Dover, NP head to districts

WEST LAFAYETTE - In Monday's Division III District Tournament at River Greens, Hiland's Carter Mishler shot a 73 (+1) to lead the Hawks to another state tournament appearance.

Kenny Weaver (79, +7), Brookston Hummel (80, +8), and Garret Shoup (85, +13) scored for the Hawks, who now look to make it two consecutive state championships at North Star Golf Club in Sunbury the weekend of Oct. 16.

Hiland won the tournament with a total score of 317 and was the lone team to advance to state, although Tusky Valley's Nathan Glaser advanced as an individual with an 83 (+16).

Garaway advances to state

The Garaway Pirates will also be going to the state tournament with their win at the Division II District Tournament at EaglesSticks in Zanesville.

Zehnder Gibson led the Bucs with a 76 (+3), and Rendall Weaver shot a 79 (+7). Charles Beachy (82, +10), Emmet Royer (87, +15) also shot qualifying rounds for Garaway, who finished at 324 as a team.

Carrollton (329) also advanced to state, with Jaxon Rinkes (73, +1) leading the way for the Warriors.

Sandy's Valley's Connor Ritter (69, -3) took the individual title and will advance to state as an individual, along with Barnesville's Carter Wells (75, +3).

The Div. II State Tournament will take place at The Ohio State University's Scarlet Course, starting Friday, Oct. 16.

Dover, New Philadelphia head to districts

Finally, the New Philadelphia Quakers won the Division I Sectional at Cambridge Country Club on Monday, with the Dover Tornadoes finishing as the runners-up.

The Quakers (349) were led by Shad Kenily (82, +10) and backed by scored from Jacob Hootman (84, +12), Nathan Menapace (88, +16), and Louis Devore (95, +23).

The Tornadoes had 353, paced by Reese Klar's 85 (+13), along with Jacob Hanner (86, +14), Carter Begue (90, +18), and Dylan Grewell (92, +20) scoring.

Tri-Valley was the last team qualifier with 355, just ending out West Holmes (4th, 366), Zanesville (5th, 397), and River View (6th, 407).

West Holmes' Trey Baker (88, +16) and Hunter Ellis (89, +17) will advance as individuals to districts, along with River View's Austin Bahmer (91, +19).
